Project 1: Skin – Textile Swatches Progress

I chose the weaving technique for my swatches because I admired the waves that the technique naturally produced in the process of creating my imagined textiles. It seemed fitting for textiles inspired by the Queen Conch shell, the subject of my research. The two swatches I started this exploration with are inspired by the pink-orange gradient of the shell, and the pearls that are rarely found within them. For my next swatches, I want to embody the dynamic textures of the shell. One will focus on the iridescence and smoothness of the shell’s interior. Another will focus on the ridgy texture of the outer shell.
