Research
For this project, I have to consider carefully what kind of body part I can make. In my childhood, I had a dream that I have a wing to fly the sky which was biologically impossible. When I got this assignment direction, I thought if I have the body extension for expressing the emotion will be glad to make it. I had little problem express the emotion since a few years ago. I mean not the real psychologically trouble, it was try to hide my feeling inside my mind.
Researching about body extension was very interesting, I saw the article that one of scientist connect to the remote chip inside of his body to control the light with motion because he can not walk. It was a very fabulous invention that he invented personal body extension for himself. From this article, I try to hope to make the body extension to help my emotion.
I had some deal with the issue with my emotion since a few years ago. The most horrible issue I got is insomnia. I suffer insomnia since lots of years ago. I could not fell asleep for no reason. I went to doctor to prescribe the medicine for insomnia, but it was temporarily working while the medication taking. The doctor said it happens because of the stress that I got. Therefore, I hope to make my imagination body extension that helps me to relax.
From the research, insomnia came from stress most of the times. Also, insomnia can because of lots of issues. For example, the environment of the room can be the cause of insomnia. The consciousness divided while lying on the bed. Then sometimes it comes with a complex about school, work, etc.
During this thought progress, I researched about insomnia. In the Greek mythic, the poppy is the one represents of the god of sleep. In the story Wizard of Oz, when Dorothy and their fellow went to around poppy flower, they fell into sleep. Poppy’s one of the characteristic is red which is the best color of light that helps to sleep. I try to research about lighting. I went to the one of famous lighting designer Noguchi Isamu museum at Long Island City. When I look at his lighting artwork, I feel very comfortable and relax. I try to think why it is. Then I realize the colors and papers unified very well and it gives me a relax moment which can help for sleeping. I want to represent insomnia and also which can help for sleep. I had had experience that represents insomnia and nightmare when I get into Parsons. I draw and make a lot of flowers it combines and formed the structure. I want to bring this idea to this project with lighting. I decided to make many poppy flowers with light like glowing in the Christmas.

Concept Sketches
I started with the concept of moods such as depression, insomnia, and the things I can get relax from it. It was many various things. It can be the moment, it can be imagined, and also it can be the object. Therefore I keep drawing everything from my head. I was come up with lots of sketches.
I decide to use the poppy flower to express and make to relax moment for mood light. I knew I wanted to make a mood light, so I have to think about what kind of base shape can it be. I was trying to think not to dynamic and organic smooth form that can help to relax. I sketch lots of base shapes
Finally, I come up with three different detail sketches with poppy flower and the base form.
Mock Up
Due to three concept sketches, I have to think what kind of light what I want to use. I have been thinking about using fairy light or using a big bulb. I did some research what kind of looks they give to us for the impression. I wanted to express more dreamy looks that can relax when we look at it as a Christmas tree. Therefore, I did a mockup for base shape what I wanted to make with foil and papers. However, I realize it is to dynamic design when I put the flowers around it and it was a bit hard to stand alone.
Therefore, I decide to make with the other concept sketches which are less dynamic and self-stable design. Then I did mock up for the flowers that I want to put around it.

Reflection
Since this project started, I was more think about what do I want to express from my artwork and also how can help people who have the same problem that I have. I learn a lot of many things. First is how I can develop an idea from my the other artwork. Even it was the same idea as my artwork, I wanted to express a different impression and concept. This time I use a little bit of technology for a different concept, and I think it was a little bit successful. From the critic, I heard the idea was cute. The most challenge was seeking the material because due to research that how poppy looks like I hope to find a similar color as much as I can. However, that challenge was meaningful time more understand about the material and think about how I can use for it. Overall, It was very exciting and exciting time to work this artwork. Nextime, if I do this project again, I hope to make a little stand for the battery pack.
