Studio Bridge 2: Vessels: Appropriation

Cracked

Inspired by Andy Warhol, this appropriation art was created to depict how ribs protect and support the heart and lungs within it. It acts as a vessel to enclose body parts. While making this piece I thought about how this can be related to humans. Humans too are like vessels, supporting and protecting each other. Just like how one body part supports another, one human can protect another. For example, mother and child relationship or husband and wife relationship. But what happens when this support system breaks?

I used the layout of Andy Warhol’s work, “Marilyn Monroe Multiples 1967” and used the complementary colors schemes in my work. I used four bright colors: red, blue, green and yellow. Instead of making prints, I decided to hand paint each one which really helped me learn more about complementary colors and Warhol’s artistic technique.

Below is the process:

This image has a dual meaning, it connotes the idea of human body part supporting another while denotes the same meaning in human relationships. It depicts how even small cracks in human relationships can lead to a big mishap just like how small cracks in ribs can negatively affect our heart and lungs.
