What I Saw Dreamed Remembered: Part II

For this class session, we were told to not only document our previous and present days here in New York and at the school; but we were also supposed to record our dreams and thoughts. The trick was….somehow we had to roll all of these experiences together into one finished piece or at least get some ideas going. Below attached I have shown my brainstorming process in my sketchbook and my sample piece that was created for the critique. I started off with an idea of creating a translucent dress form with all of my thoughts and dreams written on paper, crinkled up and used as stuffing for this form and somehow sewn together. My finished work, (or trial piece), didn’t exactly turn out that way. The fabric I chose was not suitable for the item I had in mind- so I created a translucent garbage bag; with my dreams and memories painted in india ink on the front and my private thoughts and recordings stuffed inside like trash particles- mostly due to the fact that the majority of my dreams and memories recently have not been pleasant. Some are negative, traumatizing, or simply- waste I need to dispose of. Out with the old, in with the new! I also took a snapshot of the notes my peer made during my critique as to what I need to change about this object or improve upon.

Hello, My name is Megan Taylor, I am a returning student here at Parsons; my major is Fashion Design with a peaking interest in environmentalism and animal welfare; I hope to transform the industry someday...slowly but surely. My wish is to combine luxury and aesthetic appeal with the consciousness of how and where it is made along with the idea of what to do with it after use. I have been following my need to create and share with the world art and fashion since the tender age of eleven years old.
