Week 5: Storyboard Outline for Comic + First Page

Storyboard and Layout of Comic

Heroshima Page 1

This week, I managed to plan out /storyboard the structure and number of pages I want the first issue of my comic to have (16), and realized how fitting it would be if my comic book followed the Japanese story/plot structure of Ki-Sho-Ten-Ketsu (where there is a twist in “ten” and a resolution– which opens up the potential for drama). I also managed to draw out the first page of my comic showing the singular event that catalyzes the rise of superheroes in the  rest of the comic and series that I have planned: the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima. I drew my comic on watercolor paper with pencil, and increased the contrast/exposure on Photoshop to make it look great. I used photo referencing for the first panel which shows an aerial view of Hiroshima before the dropping of the bomb, and for the “Little Boy” bomb that is dropped from the US B-29 Superfortress Bomber.

I plan on coloring the panels of my comic at a later date.
