TOPIC UTOPIA & DYSTOPIA – Assignment 2 “BODY(character)”

I started by doodling and sketching out ransom ideas about characters coming to my mind onto sketchbook pages, which I should have taken photos of and documented in this post but I forgot.

After 4 pages of sketching, some vague concepts I felt like going for are “loser mindset“, “tired” and “strong but doesn’t look strong” along with a doodle of a young office worker man. I decided to develop this assignment from these images.

Since I wanted this character to live in a dystopian and urban-ish world full of collapse and violence, I added a weapon to this him that was personalized to this character and could add on more personality and contrast than simply an office worker look.

Above is the basic design of the character. Below are some movements demonstrating his personality and actions.

This “not feeling strong but actually strong” theme goes throughout the whole design of this character. Therefore, his weapon, in contrast to his normal-looking office suit and daily life-ish fashion style, which showcases the proof of the strongest the fastest in this non-normal world set is usually hidden and tightened on his leg, disguised as a body bag. But when it’s needed as his job to either fight or protect in this violent dystopian world, he “releases” the axe weapon, his occupational equipment, and uses it proficiently.
