Kanye West was born on June 8, 1977 in Atlanta, Georgia, United States.
Kanye’s father, Ray West, was a former Black Panther who went on to become the first black photojournalist for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
His mother, Dr. Donda West, was a well-educated college professor who taught at Clark Atlanta University, Chicago State University and other institutions. After her retirement, his mother was Kanye’s manager for a time. In 2007, Kanye’s mother died of complications from plastic surgery.
His parents divorced when he was three, and he followed his mother, Donda West. His parents divorced because his mother liked the stability of life and his father’s whereabouts were erratic.
Born into an intellectual family, Kanye developed a strong interest in art at an early age. A lover of abstract art, he began writing poetry at the age of five, composed music at the age of seven and was able to produce music by the age of 13.
Since then, he has studied while making music and painting.
After his mother graduated with a Ph.D., she went to work as a professor in the English department at the University of Chicago. Kan came to China with his mother in 1987, when he was only ten years old, as a result of an exchange program between the University of Chicago and Nanjing University in China, where his mother taught at the School of Foreign Languages for a year.
