Fashion that has caused harm
culture has placed a huge influence of why these things were done despite the terrible causes.
These are the original items that inspired me to make this book. Not all were included due to lack of page space but they all inspired this project.
-Thailand- Elongated Necks. Caused the shoulders to bend downwards creating the effect of a longer neck
-corsets. caused bruises and broken ribs as well as other internal damage in that area
-glow in the dark hair and nails (radioactive). caused death over time.
-foot binding. caused broken bones and deformed feet for life.
-bottle green clothing (arsenic die). caused many deaths and lung damage.
-crinoline skirt. knocked over many candles which caused many fires. And of course death.
-distressed jeans (1980s) chemicals and dust particles, lung damage in factory workers.
Inspiration: artist books I found on Pinterest that inspired this project
I loved the color blocking and graphic quality of the second Pinterest book.
Process:
I created the holes in the sheets to bind the book by heating a nail and sliding it through the layers. This melted the material enough to make a smooth puncture.
I created an image on photoshop for the final page
Then I lined up the pages on top and added gold leaf. I did this by creating a stencil then applying the leaf on top of that to get each article of adornment.
