About

Tyler Grace Fata is a textile artist that began her artistic journey with sewing at the age of 12. She has since broadened her medium of choice to include painting, architectural design, photography, and many others. She attends Parsons School of Design in New York studying Integrated Design with a Fashion focus. Tyler grew up in Aurora, Illinois, and worked for the Paramount Theatre as an intern in the costume shop. This work early in her career shaped the relationship she has with fashion and design. Many of her designs have a focus on sustainability. She enjoys sourcing material in unconventional ways to reduce the negative impact it has on the environment. Since she is sourcing second-hand and vintage fabrics, many of her pieces are one of a kind. She hopes that through her work she can connect with her community and those around her. When making wearable pieces she focuses on the person and how she can evoke confidence around the self. This is what makes fashion so powerful, we can do anything if we are dressed to feel good. Using clothing as a form of personal expression is a critical theme in her work. She also puts importance on attention to fine details, she often adds personality through unique stitching. Many of these detailed pieces are done by hand, which can take a very long time but the unique quality it brings is worth the extra attention. She also enjoys finding ways to bring textiles into other mediums. Using fabrics in unexpected ways brings attention to the beauty and possibility of these textiles. There are many ways art can influence the world around us, and Tyler hopes to use her work as a way to drive that change and inspire people to get up and take action.
