At the Guggenheim museum, I was lucky enough to see the works of Swiss artists Peter Fischli and David Weiss. The collaborators created some of the most astonishing works using simple every day concepts and objects. The scultures belonging to the series ‘Untitled’ (1994-2013) were absolutely mezmerizing, particularly when one thinks the amount of time, careful attention and detail that must have gone into this project. However, I felt most intregued by their photographs named Equilibres (1984) of objects intercting with eachother, balancing, with the photographs capturing many of the objects moments before their collapse. In a way, this makes me wonder whether the interaction of these objects were possible representations of their times working together, the success stories, struggles, etc as the objects are almost personified.
Regardless, all of Fischli and Weiss’s works show a clear indication of collaboration, clear communication, creativity and humour (particularly in their first series Wurst). However, this does make me wonder how two individuals can work together for so many years.
