Gregory Crewdson

Crewdson believes photographs are a ‘fixed moment in time’ both through his imagination and in reality. Thus, he frames a moment in time through the use of cinematic lights capturing a scene which he had imagined in his mind.

Cindy Sherman: Film Stills

Cindy Sherman used her camera when producing the ‘Film Stills’ in the 70’s to capture specific moments from films. Using herself as the ‘actress’, Sherman posed as characters from films to capture herself in a specific moment in time (as an actress from the 50’s).

Hannah Hoch

Hoch created her collages to produce works which capture the political and social issues during her time period. Hannah was able to capture a moment in time through the combination of images, many of which seem disorganized and chaotic. Yet the combined images create a sense of reality, as they are expressing issues which were effecting the human population at the time.

Scott McCloud

McCloud uses the idea of a ‘snapshot’ to capture the moment in time which he portrays in his numerous comics. Yet, he creates transitions between these snapshots to take the reader/viewer from one moment in time to the other in a highly minimalistic manner.
