Sketches of [The Mysterious landscape]

【Still Life with Book】

This art work shows a pile of three books. The background of this artwork is black. The light looks like come from the upside of books. Because this is a still life work, the artist emphasizes the contraction of lights in this work. The differences of a grey volume are so strong in the different part, which not only help others to understand the light in this scene but also shows the texture of paper, of books. I like it because of this way to show lights and the arrangement of the pile of books.

【River Valley】

River Valley is an oil painting. This painting shows a scene of a valley that has a river wander through it. The light comes from the left and back side of this town. We could easily find it from the foreground that in the shadow. Also, most of stones and tress have a shadow at their right side. The artist also emphasizes the contraction in this painting, which makes the topography could be easily understood by others. The reflection of water in this painting is not as strong as it in Valley with River and a Town with Four Towers. The reason might be that River Valley is an oil painting, but not a copperplate work. The material that artist chooses softens whole things. I like this feeling that has clear direction of lights, strong contraction but has a feeling of peace and magic.

【Valley with River and a Town with Four Towers】

I only did the foreground and middle-ground of this artwork. This piece looks like a town surrounding a river, or a river wanders through the town. The light seems to come from the left and back of the town. Most of the light parts are the reflection of water. The dark parts are mostly made up of the houses, stones, and trees. The strong contraction makes us know the direction of light and the location of all subjects well. And the background, which I did not draw because of the size of paper, is also light, which makes us easily know that it is the day-time.

The feeling of this work is peaceful and quiet. I enjoy the realistic style it has and the shadow and light it uses to show the whole scene.
