This Time Map was an assignment to set a start and end point and go on a walk and document our journey through various means that we decide.
My approach to the project was more complicated than it should have been. I observed many factors, and settled on several of them. My start and end point were 14th st and 6th ave then to walk in a straight north line toward central park and end when I reached it.
The walk was long, and I am not a particularly strong walker. It took me about 2 and a half hours, give or take. Every block I took notes on height of tallest building on intersection, smells, overhanging structures, trees, people, and trash. The attached objects are ones that I found directly in my path of walking that were able to be put on paper. I found many more receipts, but only a few were necessary to put up as representation of them. The line that goes over the piece is my ranking of smell as I walked. The higher the better. I also noted commentary I had, and explanations for the smells at various locations.
I ran into two people on my walk, and documented where I met them. The circles denoted trees being present on that corner, the squares at the bottom if there was construction.
The height of the buildings is noted. They are colored in according to the music I was listening to. I decided to not include sounds as part of my documentation, but instead chose my own music, in chronological order of release, include Elvis, the Beatles, Bowie, and Lou Reed.
My feelings on the project.
I should have made it more simple, and after seeing presentations, probably more abstract. To have followed feelings more instead of facts, or included less facts. Overall if I could change it I would have made those corrections. I learned a lot about observational skills and representation of information.
