For my final I would want to make an installation on experiencing a human life through physical and visual snapshots. It would be an installation of eight panels, and eight physical components to go along with them. The main premise behind it is in finding what moments in a person’s life define who they are, and how a life can be captured. It is about seeing happiness and sadness as temporary conditions, and not overall conditions. About empathy, sympathy, and finding comfort for oneself through the stories of others.
The eight panels / moments would be:
Moment – Visual Representation – Physical Representation
Early Childhood – child’s drawing – a kids table with toys
Brother’s Birth – Birth announcement and party planning – balloons, gifts, sign congratulation card
Brother’s suicide – death certificate – candles you can light, wilting flowers
College in New York – acceptance letter painted over with fun paint – Panel where you can write your own journal entry of the first day of college
Life in New York as a youth – video montage – found objects in the city, maybe a mobile
Falling in love – collage of love letters, polaroids, and her phone number – wedding ring or date table
Child’s Birth – Photograph – baby items
Few Years down the road – journal entry –
