My found cliche was the concept that children fake notes and/or signatures from their parents. This is common in social contexts, relatability, movies about families, and my own life. I chose this cliche because I love kids, I love the antics they get up to, I loved the concept of faking kids notes (which I have seen a lot of kids work in my life), and above all it was relatable, and connects me to other people. This project is about parents faking notes from their kids to get out of adult responsibilities. In total there are twelve notes, each one in an attempted different style. In the progress post (Progress Post) one can see how I got to the idea, and what my ideas for children and parents names are, and parental responsibilities, and things kids do. I thought it would be fun, cute, and solid as a non-cliche.
I guess I am not sure how this connects to my semester project. The observations, and having my attention brought to cliches in general was an important step for me as an artist, as I now have an acute sense for whether or not something is a cliche, and can avoid it in my own art. Working on my semester project there was a lot of decisions I made to avoid cliche. So in that sense it built to it, by building me.
