With the increasing amount of LGBTQ group and a more and more open social environment
for different gender recogni0on, we see a growing trend on the runway – women wearing hyper
masculine clothing (e.g. Boss Fall 2015 RTW, Balenciaga Spring 2017 RTW), and men wearing soQ,
feminine designs, or even skirts (e.g. Thom Browne Spring 2012 RTW, Gucci Spring 2016 RTW).
AQer taking a class that discussed gender issues in fashion, I started to reconsider the customer
groups for design. Why people have to choose to see themselves as either male or female? Why
do we have to genderize fashion in the 21st century? Therefore, I decided to advocate for the
gender blur and androgynous design.
