Bridge 3: Stock Workers

For the bridge 3 group project, we came up with a subject pretty quickly as we all agreed on making a piece about the harsh working conditions in amazon factories. The initial concept was to create a very representational piece in which we make two houses with one being the factory and one being a household. However, after considering the objective of the project, we decided to make a simpler art piece that is more open to interpretation. At first we were brainstorming torture devices, but then we agreed on making a stock.

The stock was going to be a realistic size that was interactive. The entire thing to be made out of amazon boxes which we collected. Most of them were our boxes, and it seemed slightly ironic that we were bringing out such a negative thing while we are also contributing to the problem. We also made a carpet out of the yellow amazon packaging which adds to the aesthetics of the final piece.

Overall, I really like how it turned out. It is very close to what I imagined before production. It was not too fun of a project, it was just very labor intensive. Due to the tight time we had, I was a bit rash on producing some parts instead of being more technical. Furthermore, I feel like using card boards as a medium was not too enjoyable, since the material really takes out challenges or a chance to learn something new. For example, for my college portfolio, every piece had some level of experimentation go into it which made them so enjoyable for me. But due to the theme of this project it was unavoidable.
