MoMA: The Value of Good Design

In the 20th century, one of the most predominant ways of receiving news was through the radio. By changing the frequencies on the radio one can change to different stations with distinct content available. Fast forward to today we have a much better and convenient way of accessing news. We can just go on our phone type in topics of interests or simply go to prefered sites and access articles that keep you updated on current events. However, just like the past, there are media biases and usually once a person becomes accustomed to a few sources of news, they would be engineered to only take in the viewpoints of those particular sources. This causes problems as an individual is too invested into one side they would block out the arguments from the other sides. I think this is a problem in the United States today in which people would fall into very biased viewpoints and become very close minded about other viewpoints. This is especially true for liberal biases as the American media currently is dominated by more democratic viewpoints. CNN has a record of lying on political issues which in turn gets accepted as the truth by the public as that’s the truth they want to hear and they never doubt the source or do expanded research. This is true for conservatives as well as for many biased conservatives Fox News is their haven where they get news from. My tool kit is very closely tied to the media and ways to avoid fake and biased news. One tool would be an app that can inform people on how not to be biased and be more open minded to other people’s opinions. I’m thinking to make a QR code that easily fits into the toolkit and is able to direct the user into an app or website that gives instructions and examples on how not to be biased.
