Learning Portfolio Post #5

I can not say what is fashion, but instead, my own opinion of fashion. I think fashion is contradictory. It is both perfectness and imperfectness. It can be present in any form. It also can group contradictory elements together but creates a beauty. Clark and Buckley stated in “Fashion and Everyday life” that “There remains a predominant interest in the fashion ‘syntaxes’ of the young, the novelty of the ‘look’, and the currency of the latest style – whether re-cycled, secondhand, revivalist, or new”. Today, we already developed many forms and styles of fashion. We are no longer as people back to the 20s and 80s, when people are wearing the same style. We also developed our own aesthetic through various styles of fashion. Great examples are Vetements, and nowadays Balenciaga.

In recent years, we began not to only focus on the pure perfectness of beauty, but the inner temperament, the sentiment that the work shows. Elements that were considered ugly in the history then transformed into fashion, avant-garde. Fashion can also be a unconcrete thing. Installations by Claudia Casarino and Laura Raboff illustrate how garments can form as an art, sentiment, and an atmosphere.

Fashion is like a ball. It bounds here to there, and you don’t know where it’ll bounds next.
