LP: Methodology Update

Topic: Contemporary entertainment culture and fashion’ impact on people’s values in China

Discoveries:

  1.  People who act excessive kitsch, vulgar expression in order to gain views that resulted negative impact on public order.

Figure 3 and 4 shows a man who’s peeling off animal skin, and a woman who’s saying she can go with anyone who pays her twenty thousand yuan. In order to attract attention, many users in short-video apps broadcast vulgar and pornographic behaviors such as eating worms, piercing ears, eating snakes, hunting wild animals, and seducing semi-naked people to pay rewards, etc. Some broadcasters even broke the law directly in order to attract followers.

2. Web influencers who promote fake cosmetics and fake medicines on social network in order to earn advertising fees.

3. Sell cheap, low-quality clothes to fans/consumers to boost profits.

4. In China, all web influencers have formed a targeted marketing market after gaining a large number of followers. They use their fame to open online stores and sell clothes or cosmetics to create more considerable income. Selling products and receiving advertisements are common ways of realization for network celebrities (BBC)

Opinions: In a big population country like China, the power of internet is really influential, therefore people need positive energy as a guide. If we continue to connive at such negative influences and attitudes, the consequences for our future generations are serious.
