“The disasters of modern life” is a mixed-media collage created by Dina Pushkareva, Carmen Llaguno, Fanzhou Bu, Giovanna Vista and I. This piece of art represents a vision of the problems of the contemporary world. By combining the struggles of war, alcohol and prostitution we wanted to show what our society is going through.
We were inspired by the surrealist game “Exquisite Corpse.” Each one of our group members was assigned to a specific task. The first step was to draw the images based on the 19th century oil paintings we were given, then we colored and played with the piece’s composition on Photoshop and lastly we collaged and painted over the printed image. This project was very fulfilling and fun since it evolved through this process as a collective and spontaneous piece.
My role of this project is to draw four illustrations that can represents the sad and fact of the war. Thus, I choose to draw a sad grandma, whose son of grandson goes to a war, a soldier holding a gun and some military trucks and planes. All the drawing is drew by pens because I want to make them look unified.
