For my collection, I collected some small things from fragrance oil to stickers & I also recorded five senses of the day in my sketchbook.

For the final piece, at the first I wanted to do a collage on wall by the photos I took in those two weeks. This is the most convenient way for me to put everything together to make ONE piece. These photos are architecture and foods I have recorded. I made 4 different arrangement of the photos but I thought they were too flat. I wish my piece to be something more interactive and include more senses than visual.

Therefore, I come back to my first idea of making a little room by the small objects I collected.

I started with a raw shoe box: the “bedding” is a towel-touch, “sofa” is made by earphone and two lavender sachet-smell, little leather journal was designated to be seat that pair with “desk” that is a pencil sharpener-touch; there are other decorative settings built by little stuffs. The whole prototype has a visual of bedroom.

I have sight, smell, and touch. I want to add more elements of senses to it. So I put my blanket–also was collected in those two weeks–in the box as the base. Moreover, instead of the little box, the bed is made by a candy box (with candies in it)-taste, fluffy blanket-touch, ribbon not that was on my sandals-sight, wood pencil box, unicorn and llama from my friends-sight & touch, mini Bluetooth player that was like a radio box-sound, lavender sachets-smell, etc.

Memoir

The final piece is composed by two parts, the pillow as the cap and the box that is decorated by blanket and small objects. It is meant to be interactive. When the box is with the pillow cap on the top, it shall looks like a bed with storages beneath it which is inspired by my dorm bed. My roommate said, “You fit another room under it.” The small objects I collected represent my experience of five senses in past two weeks. As my senses is attracted and tied to building and making my new home, I turn those little objects and box to a room to represent the things and storages under my bed; I spent a lot of time in past two weeks to make a new homey room for myself. During presentation and critique, some of the little objects is dislocated with made it not much like a room but looks like a gift box. The pillow and the blanket are too big for the box that get in the way of presenting a room. I think next time I need to prepare more time for setting up the presentation and maybe take a step back, keep the piece as the way it is instead of rushing to the next step.
