Einstein’s Dreams Triptych

After reading Einstein’s Dreams by Alan Lightman, I created visual map by collage for reflecting the concepts of time in dream Chapter “10 May 1905”.

Description of Einstein’s Dream Triptych

Dream: 10 May 1905

Three panels will be arranged according to the following order

Panel One: Image

This collage briefly has two elements: mountains and buildings. The buildings cover the most part of the panel. In this dream, Alps was mentioned multiple times, so I created mountains will virous colors on the top of the panel where should be the “far back” in an image. They are pieced and colorful which seems unreal to illustrate that this is a dream. The buildings look like they are connecting and overlapping but I used foam to create depth between them. As described in the story, “it is a town of one piece and a whole” but at the same time, “it is a town in many pieces”. I took image of building from different time period and collage them into this town to demonstrate “each section of the village is fastened to a different time”.

Panel Two: Text

This penal is randomly collage with the words I interpret that is connecting the dream. They are words about time, especially the past. Some phrase are about future. In the middle is the word “HISTORY” that is popped up. I think this is one of the most important elements in this dream as “portions of towns become stuck in some moment in history and do not get out”.

Panel Three: Text and Image

There were three stories of “individual people become stuck in some point of their lives and do not get out”. The shelves on the right represent the story of a man who lived in a crowed room full of his old “trophies”. A lot of “I was…” was written in between the things and stuck there. On top left in the office was the words of the man who stuck with one thing—he never told his father that he loved him, and his father probably already died. On the bottom left was the mom who did not realized that her son already grown. In the story was her watching a photo. I put the photo up but I choose to use a image of a women holding her child because that better illustrate the time that mom was stuck into. In addition, her son was calling her outside, but she cannot hear it.
