Reflection on John Zorn’s Khebar

How are people supposed to play musical instruments? Are regional traditional musical instruments only suitable to play traditional music? These are the questions that listening to Khebar brings to me.

Some rules are made for better, more organized life. But some rules are made only as restrictions. For instance, why most of the musical players are taught to play music that already exist? Why the contents of most of the musical instrument level tests are to play certain music? Both violin and guitar have strings, people need a bow to play the violin doesn’t mean they cannot play it like play a guitar.

People shouldn’t wait for others to tell them what they are supposed to do. Instead, people need to learn to explore what they are able to do. These guys who explore new ways are people who create things and make changes.

So if we want to think and act out of the box, we need to do something different or even do something “wrong” from some aspects. I want to be a person who obey right rules and against inappropriate ones, simply because I don’t want to add restrictions on my imagination and ability.
