Bridge 4 – Projet Prototypes

1-4

In the collage, I want to show the struggle of the woman between her belief and her sexual orientation. The two halves of her body are places in different places: church and lesbian bar. She know her sexual orientation is not allowed in her religious belief, but her head is leaning towards the bar. The outline between the bar and her body is both distance and attraction.

Reflection questions:

  • the prototype is successful because it clearly express the idea and all the parts are related.
  • What I learned from this prototype is using meaning to relate different parts together.
  • What I will do (or need to do) with the next prototype is self exploration.

2-1

The collage is meant to show that the christian woman find out her homosexuality and try to pray her gay away through reading the Bible. Here the Bible is a limitation that the woman choose to apply on herself, so I use chains in the collage.

Reflection questions:

  • the prototype is successful because the viewer can easily understand the meaning of the collage.
  • What I learned from this prototype is when people choose to pray their gay away, they are gay already and the action is just an limitation of being themselves.
  • What I will do (or need to do) with the next prototype is make collages from other people’s points of view around ‘pray the gay away’.

I want to make a series of collages from how the person stuck and struggle to one’s self exploration. The supplies may be paints that will be apply on the printed version. I want to present my final work by printing them on postcard and write different sentences form real gay stories on the back according to different stages.
