Time-Time Map

Project Requirements:

Create a Time Map. This means to map something over time. Whatever it is should be something that you can present so that the entire contents of the “map” are visible at one time, i.e. not a notebook we cannot see the contents of. This is conceptual and intentionally open-ended, so I encourage you to think outside the box. The scale of what you choose to map is up to you — could be anything from the duration of a single hour or a single day, to the duration of your whole life thus far. Examples include anything from … where you go, people you see, connections between people that got you to where you are now, things you’ve consumed, emotions you’ve experienced … the possibilities are endless. Think about how to map something over time / how to map something over a set duration. While this sounds scientific and should be a true record of something, this is an art project, so also consider both aesthetics and concept. The works of On Kawara, particularly the “Self-Observation” works mentioned in the video we watched in class about his 2015 Guggenheim exhibition, are the inspiration for this assignment.

I’ve been told that I don’t take a “normal” amount of selfies, and it occurred to me when I was thinking about what to do for this project. I recorded the date that I took selfies on my phone from Apr.24,2017 to Feb.09,2019. The dates are shown below:

Then I created three different wordles using the data. There are the eye, woman figure, and brain.

Then I print out these elements and cut and paste them into a final piece. Below is how it look digitally.
