Stranger

When I first came to the United States, it was a whole new world on its own. Skyscrapers, people, lifestyle and just everything seemed intimidating at the beginning but that’s because I hadn’t given any of them a chance to express themselves. Perhaps giving myself time to settle in and grasp the surrounding was the best way to integrate in the community. Talking to my roommates, learning about their way of living and simply understanding and comparing the two distinct sides of the world made it easier for me to accept things with a more open mind. Carlos Ruiz Zafón once said “. . .sometimes one feels freer speaking to a stranger than to people one knows. Why is that?”
“Probably because a stranger sees us the way we are, not as he wishes to think we are.”
