For this Risograph printing assignment, choosing one of the “Mask in Context” photos, I created a Risograph printing, employing Bright Red as base and Purple as top. The most challenging aspect of creating the print is to cooperate with the machine. Since I was placed to a Risograph printing machine that is harder to work with, it was not successful for me to start with master making process. On the operating screen of the machine, it kept showing up the message on either paper or master getting jammed somewhere in the machine. Accordingly, I had to keep up with my patience and reopen the machine to check out what was going wrong repetitively. As the paper kept getting jammed, I found out the reason that the black area I left for red-master layer is too much. To solve the issue, I reduced the opacity of the red layer to 50% and the printing ultimately went well. The easiest thing is the dual color printing after the master making as I tried merely a few times and obtained the ideal effect. What I most liked about my printing is the fact that the risograph printing is able to emphasize my most satisfying part on the mask–the lines lying on the mask and the yarns which stayed so detailed and organized that they allowed the mask to hold the whole mood of the printed version. Last but not least, the purple color covered a perfectly balanced area on the print. Overall, I’m well satisfied with the risograph printing of my chosen “Mask in Context” photo.
