1. Brief Concpet
- Inspiration : I watched the documentary film from Korea, which is called ‘Money and Flower’. They introduced Brokpa tribe comparing with our modern society. They put utmost importance value on flowers and ancient times, they used apricots as their currency. This modern society, we are too focused on money. People try to earn more money and people want to have much money. This documentary gave me the thought that what if our society doesn’t use money but put value on other things?
- Cultural Meaning : In asian countries, our ancestors considered hair as really valuable heritage from parents. So they couldn’t cut their hair easily. Even if they wanted to cut hair, it was strongly banned. I brought this idea to the modern society, so I set hair as the currency. Most valuable hair is plain black hair which our ancestors did.
- Social Meaning : If you grow old, your hair turns to grey. Then in this society, your currency doesn’t have any high value. It would become cheap. This concept also links to the elderly problem in our society. Many elder worries that they would become useless in job field when they get old.
2. Material Choose
- I don’t want to limit my material to only hair. When I see hunters’ costumes from drama or movies, they put a lot of things to show that they are superior than their targets. So generally some parts of their costumes are bulky and complicated. I tried to find hair-like materials, which included feathers, fringes and real hair piece. Since I have several materials, I had no idea how they look like on the body, so I put the materials’ parts on the real body to see how it translates to the body.
