Creative Tech : Adding Volumes
- About Project : We built our boxes for base skirt, and then had to add volumes with different methods such as pleats, draping and gathers.
- Problem Solving : I had a hard time to do waist line of this skirt because its shape is different from normal waist band which is rectangle. It has V at the back, so instead of just using rectangle waist band, I actually draped it. Another difficulty that I faced with is pleats, since I pleated and folded together, the layers were so many. I didn’t want them to be so heavy that ruins base skirt shape so I made flare-ish pattern and spreaded them and pleated on the wider side.
- Fabric Choices : Firstly, I thought about organza but I didn’t choose it because I thought that it might not be stiff enough to hold pleats and flares and it’s extremely hard to work with. Then I moved to the idea of using felt but it’s too th
ick for several layers of pleats and flares. So I was looking into denim section and found cotton-like denim which is stiff enough and light enough.
