Creative Tech : Shirt Deconstruction

Creative Tech : Shirt Deconstruction

  1.  Project Brief: This project is about shirt deconstruction. We had to take individual pieces of shirts and drape into whole different piece. However, it doesn’t have to be classical shirt form, it could be creative as much as we could.
  2. Inspiration: During fashion history class, one of articles that we have to read was about space suit. Surprisingly, people sew and make patterns of space suit. It’s like couture job. I’ve had this idea in my mind, it’s been floating and I want to use this space suit idea at some point. I think shirt deconstruction is great for the idea because mostly people don’t make or wear shirt made out of space-suit-like fabrics.
  3. Fabric Choice: My fabric is metallic so it can convey the idea of space suit. It’s not cotton, it was in ‘high-tech fabric’ section. It’s very stiff so every part of garment stand on their own, especially collars and sleeves.
  4. Challenges: The most difficult challenge for me is making patterns. Since the garment has separate collars and two separate sleeves, it includes a lot of pattern pieces. I had to think carefully what to sew first and after. Next biggest challenge is the fabric is very stiff so when I sewed multiple layers such as collars, placket and cuffs, they were really thick.
