Bridge 5: Framing Fashion

As for our Bridge project 5, we are assigned to have a reflection on our first year and stage a photo shoot of ourselves with our ensemble among selected existing projects that we have made in the first year. In this case, I decide to make a photo shoot of myself wearing my three ensembles with my Soft Structures final at the corner of the hallway.

In this photo shoot, I wear three of my ensembles in different forms and position myself in different directions from the far to near. Since my pieces are related to the concept of the ideal body image of female, I try to convey a visual message about a process on how a female consider fashion as a way to express her view of her own body image. The left figure is a common view on how the public see the appearance of a female. The middle one is a self-exploration when a female begins to challenge the standard of beauty on how she looks like in front of others, and the right one is a final release that empowers a female should not afraid what others think about her body image but become her true self by overcoming the heart of herself.

The settings of this photo shoot is simple because I try to make the figures clearly for viewers to recognize. Both the space and lighting are connected with each other to create a virtual illusion on a female explores her own ideal body image through her cognition and perception.

My inspiration of this photo shoot comes from the fashion photography I choose for the research that one figure has multiple motions in different directions, because this creates a sense of ongoing process that the viewers may have various understandings of what this figure represents and why this figure stages in such specific way.
