OBSERVING LIFE

I chose to go out with my classmates and teachers in offline classes to experience a day of plant dyeing. Because I think what happened that day is more meaningful.

First iteration

In the first edition of the story, I just spliced a few pieces together without explaining the rationality of their appearance. For example, in the first scene of the fish, I did not show why I watched the fish there. But I made a bolder attempt to arrange the videos, such as overlapping the two videos by changing the transparency to produce a continuous visual effect. I also photographed the fish from multiple angles to show his beautiful movement posture.

Second iteration

I filmed almost all the details that happened that day, including brushing teeth, changing water, going out, riding in the car, and dyeing cloth. So my second edition of the story is edited according to what happened. I considered the circumstances of what had happened. I ended with dyeing the cloth, but I didn’t consider the rationality of the ending and it ended abruptly.

Third iteration

In the third edition of the story, I added background music to let the soothing music drive the development of the video. In this version, I also considered changing the ending content. I added the images of entering and leaving the studio to make the whole more complete.

Final iteration

In the final version, I showed a state of my return from the studio by adding a reverse screen at the end. And finally returned to the scene of watching the fighting fish, which echoed the content of changing the water in the fish tank at the beginning. And adjusted the overall rhythm, and deleted some of the procrastinated walking scenes. Some special effects details are added between video conversions to make the whole more coherent.

Narrative

Today is an ordinary Monday. There was no class in the morning, so I woke up naturally, a rare and relaxing day.

I lay in bed for a while before I got up and brushed my teeth. Listening to the sound of the water washing the toothbrush and watching the foam wash away with the water, I suddenly thought of my fighting fish. A few days ago, I was too busy and didn’t have much time to take care of it. Now the fish tank needs to be changed. There is some guilt in my heart, and I feel that I have not done my duty to take care of it. I took it to the sink and put it in the plastic bottle for water change, and I started to wipe the fish tank seriously. Some foam remains on the surface of the acrylic, which is the bubble nest it spit out when it is in heat.

After changing the water, I put it on the black carpet and observed it carefully. Its color seems to be brighter than before.

My friend’s knock on the door reminded me that in the afternoon we are going to the studio to experience plant dyeing. So I hurried out and caught the bus that was about to leave with my classmates.

In the studio we tried twist dyeing. Tighten the cotton thread and soak and wash it repeatedly in dye and water. The dyes are presented on the top, with different patterns and colors.
