First I wanted to use the mascot character Afon, an endangered short-nosed sturgeon, I created in the seminar class, as a model to crave character on the foam. But I found that it was very difficult to portray the limbs on the foam. The limbs were too slender and the foam was easy to break, so I changed my mind and made a character that was more of a short-nosed sturgeon archetype. After making the shape out of the foam I felting with the wool to create some patterns on the surface to make the piece look more complete. I am very satisfied with this work, it’s the second time I do the felting and I really enjoy the process of it.
