The final project for the Dynamic Drawing class is to make a series of designs such as icon, logo, slogan, and edutainment for a certain site. I am a Chinese who love to eat spicy food especially the Szechwan Cuisine. I decide to make my final project to be a serious design of Szechwan Cuisine to let more people know about it.
Since Szechwan Cuisine is all about ‘spicy.’ For the icon and logo, in order to let people remember and recognized the most important flavor in Szechwan cuisine is spicy. I decided to make the icon and logo using peppers; Simple but memorable.
Sketches:
First version:
After receiving some commons from Professor Katerina and my classmates. I decided to change the word ‘Sichuan’ to ‘Szechuan’ since the English version is more popular and well known in comparison to the Chines ‘Pinyin’ version. For the slogan, I decided to change it from “Let the spicy spread” to “Start from the tongue; spread through the whole body.” Making this change because people who have little knowledge of spicy and Szechwan cuisine are having trouble with understanding how the ‘spicy’ would ‘spread’ in this case. For the ‘Cross Word’ idea, I decided to change it into ‘Word Search’. For the ‘Connect the Dot’ edutainment, I decided to add a caption to let people understand what to do.
After receiving some new commons from Professor Katerina and my classmates. I decided to change my slogan, from “Let the spicy spread” to “Start on the Tongue; Spread through the body,” to make the slogan fluent and clear. I also change the pepper on the back of the icon and the logo to a darker color so it could be seen more clearly. For the ‘Word Search’ I decided to add the word ‘Hot Pot’ in both Chinese and English to give a more clear understanding of the image I draw for the Hot Pot to help the reader get more information about this Cusine. For the ‘Connect the Dot,’ I decided to change not to use the white dot and use the number instead to let people know which dot they should connect to. I also did two versions of the edutainment, one finished one and one unfinished one to give am an example of the finished work.
