Within this visual culture studio class, I have studied gender through different perspectives. At the same time experienced using various materials to express different ideas. I have come up with two different interests within my theme of gender.
Prototype 1
I have been researching the masculinity within Asian-American males affected by media perception. I found that Asian-American male was being viewed as more negatively due to gender stereotypes. They were easier to be judged by violating gender norms because men lose status and manhood. For example, the ideal male reinforcement we usually see in American media were physically well-built, outgoing, charismatic, liked by everyone. But as Asian-American were almost always being perceived as passive, effeminate and weak. I want to show the stereotypes of masculinity should not exist.
“Desexualization vs. Fetishization” (2019) by Andrew Kung.
Showing the contrast between the perspective of different appearance could genuinely change a person’s look but not the human himself. People should not judge others by their looks.

VougeChina
A male Asian-American model.
A metaphor of being a male who seems docile (expressing by the flexible of his body) but there is strong power within him(expressing by the shadow of strong elements I would later PS into the photo).
Prototype 3
Showing different looks of one Asian-American male walking towards the camera. Showing the contrast between the perspective of different appearance could genuinely change a person’s look but not the human himself.
