The rapid pace at which we develop and occupy space is transformative and destabilizing, prompting consideration of its various aspects within my artistic exploration. My subject matter delves into the impact of this pace, seeking to evoke fragmentary recognitions embedded in the mundane. Specifically, I examine how technology and materialism alter our perceptions and interactions with the Earth, challenging our sensory experiences and questioning their role in societal constructs.
I was born in China, and inspired by this cultural background. I draw from traditional Buddhist beliefs that posit our understanding of reality is constrained by the inherent limitations of our sensory experiences. Consequently, my artworks aim to capture the essence of being cognizant of human form in its true sense, forging an alchemy between paint and phenomenon. Each piece contributes to an ongoing recognition of human status.
Surrealism and dream-like imagery provide an expansive realm for me to wonder and engage in indirect expression through visual symbols. Using oil paints, I disrupt the purity of the blank canvas with dream-like metaphoric compositions. Having lived amidst the anxiety of competition, the crowdedness of populations, and the ceaseless pursuit of materialism and technology, I find profound inspiration in these experiences. Oil paint’s rich, lustrous quality enables me to achieve depth and vibrancy in my artwork, aligning with the nuanced narratives I aim to convey. The slow drying time of oil paint allows for seamless blending and layering, facilitating the creation of intricate details and textures. This deliberate selection enhances my work’s depth, visual allure, and narrative impact.
The thematic essence of my portfolio delves into the intricate interplay between human nature and materialism, offering profound insights that transcend conventional boundaries. One poignant example portrays a girl squatting on a pile of discarded machines—a powerful metaphor reflecting the symbiotic relationship between humanity and technology. Another evocative piece captures many young people confined within a small cube space and serves as a stark commentary on the societal constraints imposed by materialistic pursuits. The claustrophobic setting metaphorically represents the pressure and limitations that accompany the relentless pursuit of material wealth and success.
These artworks not only function as visual narratives but also invite viewers to reflect on the complexities of the human condition in a world increasingly shaped by materialistic values. At the core of my artistic and design process are foundational principles that act as guiding philosophies. I believe in the profound impact of visual communication as a powerful medium for conveying meanings, messages, and narratives. Driven by the intention to communicate thought-provoking ideas, my work engages with viewers on a deeper level by offering insights into the complexity of the human condition. Whether exploring emotions, cultural reflections, or societal critiques, my intended audience encompasses each of us to struggle to survive and individuals who appreciate the layered narratives embedded in visual storytelling.
