Final Studio Project-Gold

For the last project we were supposed to take inspiration from the silhouette experiment we did and create a garment of our own that would relate to the focus we had.

On the garment itself, I’m really happy with the way it turned out. It isn’t exactly the same as what I had designed initially due to a shortage of materials, but it was through that, that my creative mind was tested. I had to come up with solutions that not only I liked but also worked with my whole concept. This is by far the cleanest thing I’ve ever made, in terms of construction that is but I do know that it isn’t perfect. For example, one of my biggest realization here is how hard and important it is to sew on a zipper properly. I had a hard time doing that and had to redo it because I sewed the first one in the wrong direction. Overall though I’m pretty pleased and will always try to improve the next time I have to make a garment. The thing I liked the most about the soft garment is the sleeves though. Initially I really had no idea how it would turn out with this material I was using but then it had enough structure and wasn’t as limp as muslin that it could actually stand on its own.

In terms of its relation to my own concept, i think that it does embody the ida of gold being both soft and hard. I just hope that it translates well to others without needing that much explanation.
