Aside from following the instructions for the basic jacket, we also had to create five iterations of two different parts of the jacket, creating ten in total. For the iterations, I was actually by research I was doing on playgrounds from another class. The idea that was so interesting about playgrounds for me was the fact that at the end of the day it wasn’t about how colorful it was designed or how complicated looking the monkey bars and jungle gyms were, it was about creating a space where the kids were able to interact with both their surroundings and their peers. That the design could be as simple as possible, that as long as there was interchangeability then it was enough. It was about letting the kids decide what they could do with the space and how they could change it. So interaction and different ways of using became a big aspect of my project. For this project specifically I then decided to do iterations of pockets and closures, as they are seemingly one of the most functional aspect of a jacket and I really wanted to explore on just how can they can be taken beyond their traditional form.
