Eternally Tangled

This is another short film from my Time: Composition class. The thesis of this film was taking something out of the ordinary, particularly some action created with your hands, and disrupting the flow of time within it. Bring some new perspectives onto this ordinary action, to give it a totally new feeling that it would never have had before. My choice was to create a loop of cuts that went back and forth through time. I wanted to not only show my actress untangling the headphones, but them tangling themselves back up slowly over time. I tried to have to flow almost in a total monotonous loop, around and around, tangled and un-tangled. I took two total takes: one completely obsolete, the other full of anxiety and rage. In my mind, the obsolete one was rather disturbing, where the angry one seems more plausible and relatable to the audience. I flipped between both throughout, to create a looming, growing feeling of anxiety. I also gave different perspective shots, because I wanted to capture some moments in which it looked like the headphones were taking on a mind of their own, hence adding to the creepy element I was trying to bring forth. I also took great interest to the sound, adding in a steady heartbeat. However, whenever the film flipped to a darker, more anxious cut, the heartbeat speeds up to help along with that effect.
