Integrative Studio: Memoir

Violence, Reckless, Stupid, Voice… These are just some words to describe the horror that took place in Turkey.

It all began in Taksim Square but travelled around the world. “The Gezi” was not just about a park, it was a physical representation of what people of Turkey were thinking. they were fed up with the reckless and irresponsible behavior of the government.

This event sparked when the government decided to run down a park named “Gezi” and build a shopping mall. Not only did the people want another mall but also they did not need one. Therefore a few people stand still in front of the trucks and protested. First they were asked to leave with threats but after it turned into violence and many people were injured.

In this project I mainly focused on self harm. The government hurting, harming its own people. When did defending your beliefs become a crime? Apparently turkish government thinks disobeying in any way is a crime. Sometimes disobeying and questioning can lead to a better understanding and co-operation.
