Exploring the streets of Chinatown gave me inspiration to create a piece that held a deeper meaning. The massage advertisements I passed made me look at the cultural relationship between China and the United States differently because all of them featured only white americans. I found a relationship between the asian american working class and their white american main consumer that was strictly economic. This inspired me to express what I learned through a white cotton kimono that had windows of different skin colors on the back, a collar that wrote “made in China” and a piece connecting the hands made from a chinese scarf purchased in Chinatown.
