Waiting

The amount of time a person spends waiting a day depends on each day. There are also small things people wait for on an everyday basis though, that don’t seem like much time, but accumulate. On the day I took notes, I had a few places that I had to spend some time waiting where I normally wouldn’t, like in the waiting room as well as the actual exam room of a doctor’s office, as well as outside a classmate’s apartment in order to meet up with teammates in a group project. I don’t do these things every day, but there are also other errands I have to do other days that involve waiting. Besides these, there are things people have to wait for every day. Small things, like waiting for the elevator, waiting for the crosswalk or red light to change, and waiting for the train are often done on a regular basis, and I have always wondered how much time this takes away from a person’s life. I have often thought about commuting specifically, as some people commute for hours everyday. All of this time adds up. A lot of times I find myself listening to music and zoning out when I am waiting, but I would like to get in the habit of doing something productive while I wait. I have found it useful to work on things like essays for school, or other things that I have access to while I’m out, via my phone. I like to write poetry, and I have actually written most of my work in the Notes app on my phone and transferred it to my computer later. I even find being out in public with tons of things to look at and analyze very inspirational.
