VIDEO FINAL PROJECT

PROPOSAL –»

  • What is your concept? Is there a linear story? Non-linear? An idea?

We are going to use audio clips from 1960’s videos about being a ‘proper woman’ but the main (and only) character, the girl, is going to be going against what the speaker tells her. We are going to highlight what she is wearing (60’s french fashion), the locations she’s in, and the music (french instrumental). It is not a linear story, we will switch between different scenes but make it flow as a concept.

  • What is the goal or intended purpose(s) of the project?

It is a commentary on the expectations set for women in society, and a demonstration of what women can really be like. We’re gonna try to have a softer, dreamier style of filming/lighting to keep that ‘feminine’ undertone, and cultivate a powerful message; we want to demonstrate that femininity comes in many ways and it just as powerful as society depicts masculinity.

  • What is your intended length?

We intend to make it around a minute and a half to two minutes.

  • Tell us WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHEN and HOW you plan to shoot. Be very explicit about each of these 5 elements. What materials will you need to make it? Where do you plan to shoot it? Will you shoot from one camera or two (One angle? Two? More?)?
  • WHO: Clara
  • WHAT:
    • One camera
    • Many angles (both handheld + with a tripod)
    • Outfits: pajamas, skirt + blazer outfit, dress, shoes
  • WHERE:
  • Central Park – Golden hour in green
  • Outside Soho
  • Basement in dorms – softer lighting – pajama set
  • More residential area? Paris style, Upper east or west.
  • Try to go onto a roof

  • Has any media work already been produced on this subject? Show us examples of these references and explain what is new, different, interesting, engaging about your approach?Style? (Any key stylistic elements in shooting, audio, editing, etc.). Show two examples (these can, of course, be from the lists we showed you in class).

  • Petra collins style

  • Will you have sound in it? Music? Narration? If narration, who? what? Would you like to edit to the beat, or simply have it play at the same speed throughout?
  • We will use the audio from old commercials/advertisements that suggest women how they should be in order to become the stereotypical women and use a french melody as the background music. We will contrast these different audios with a cinematography that presents freedom. That a woman can be whoever she wants. We will try to set it in a 60s/70s atmosphere. We will try to keep the beat of the music and the cuts from the editing synchronized.
  • Who is working on the project and what will the role of each person be?
    • Clara, Marcella and Martu.
      • Marcella: Cinematographer, writer

  • Martu: Editor, writer
  • Clara: Creative director, writer (and ‘actor’)
