Final Freee Writing Exercise

Throughout the semester, I’ve learned that I work best when I am free to give myself my own direction, without any boundaries. I’ve discovered that the majority of my work is done on impulse, and are spontaneous thoughts that become visuals. With our research in advanced research seminar, I have also found that I lack deeper symbolic purposes in the works that I produce. The downside to creating on a whim, or when the timing ‘feels right,’ is that the concept of my work can never be developed until the pieces is completely finished.

In the context of my senior thesis, my research on Korean culture and minhwa painting allowed me to realize, not the concept, but the context of where my fascination with cranes came from. Once studying and understanding the process and reason behind why minhwa painting is considered minhwa, painting allowed me to have a further insight to what meets the eye. I would use my exhibition as key talking points when I am presenting my pieces. T
