Drawing through the Making Center: Final

For my final, I chose the artist Richard Serra to base my project on. For my project, I decided on going against his organic forms that he creates with metal. For my project, I went about it very structurally. I used simple geometric shapes, square and rectangle, to create a space that people could walk through. The two forms I created, gives a different experience. The first one I created almost represents a maze. As the person walks through the spaces get smaller, giving the person a tighter feel. Whereas the second space I created, is much more open and gives the person space to breathe and create his/her own path. Each structure I created using an architects scale. I scaled each creation to see what it would be like if it was represented in real life. The scale that I used was 1/8″=1′. As an example, the top square in my second creation is a 1-foot square, which would equal 8 feet in real life. I also added scale figures to my second clay sculpture to give a better idea of the scale.

I enjoyed working with clay again and being able to bring architectural concepts again. Furthermore, I also enjoyed the class despite having to transition into online classes for half the year.
