This is a project I did in my first year Time class that I titled “Welcome to Wonderland.” The purpose of this installation was to give the person interacting with it a sense of escape and separation from the reality of time and space and give him or her the feeling that they had entered a fantasy world. I was drawn to the presence of fantasy worlds that exist in their own realm of time and space in children’s stories, such as Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Peter Pan, the Chronicles of Narnia, etc. I began by sketching designs and then began constructing and painting the walls. I then made a bunch of paper flowers and garlands and installed them throughout the piece and completed the atmosphere with a plastic blue curtain, dimmed, whimsical lighting, and a song from the Alice in Wonderland playing in the background.
