Immersive Storytelling Lecture Response

Our lecture last Wednesday covered a lot of topics which makes it hard to generalize an opinion on it. Overall though what I gained from Anezkas lecture is that technology is advancing so quickly that it’s impossible to predict what stories will be like in the near future. With Ai, Volumetric capturing, and the rapid advancement of both CGI and human computer interfaces we should not focus our creative efforts on one medium. Rather we should study the art of immersion on broad level because no matter how technology advances, a deep level immersion will be the goal of all these mediums. As someone an actor I’d be fascinated to see how an Ai like babyX would be received on stage next to a real actor. As a playwright I’m fascinated to see how giving audiences agency will change how stories are told and written. As a director I’d love to see how the directing process changes when your working with volumetric actors instead of real ones. There are so many possibilities that technology lends to the arts that studying the purest form of storytelling is the best way we can prepare ourselves as artists. I’m glad Anezka ended the class on the idea of the singularity. This is a concept I’ve been fascinated with for a while and one that I 100% believe in. Human minds are evolving quicker than ever before because of technology. At the rate we’re going it’s hard to imagine what this rapid evolution will mean for the human race. But this does not scare me. On the contrary, I’m excited to see what is in store for us as humans and how it will reflect in the arts.
