What does the word “Memorial” means to me. Memorial is something that remind ourselves about the event. When something tragic happens, we built a monument to let us know what happened during that time. The event that I am using is Freddie Mercury’s death on 11/23/91. AIDs was the reason why he died. I chose this event because AIDs is something that is affecting peoples live since the 1970s-80s. There is still no cure for it and the people that are affected by it are slowly dying everyday. Emily Raabe (Seminar 1) is the reason why I chose this event. We talked about it for a few days straight and I realized how serious this virus is. I was roaming around MoMa Ps1,and I happen to see Wardell Milan’s piece of work. He has 3 works in total. 3 of them has a head each but no body. The paper has nothing on it except for the head. The color is black and white. The way he made it has that ugliness part on each of his 3 pieces but it was also beautiful at the same time. The space balanced both ugliness and beauty. It looked like a dark piece but again, it has light in it. The story behind it can be scary but happy. This is why I was inspired by his work.
