History of Fashion Proposal

1920’s

Chihuahua, Mexico.

This picture is from my mother’s paternal side.

The girl in the white dress and big bow in her hair, is my grandfather’s mother when she was a child.

My great-grandmother’s parents where both German and had come to Mexico to work, where from there on, made a life and had children.

I chose this picture because, I’ve always been told in my family that I look like my great-grandmother, and because I don’t know so much of that side of the family, so I thought it would be interesting to research more about my heritage.

I think this tie up to my personal aesthetic, because my great-grandmother was known for always having a distinct style, using accentuated accessories that caught your attention.

Emilio Pucci Uniforms for the Braniff International Airline, 1965-73

I’ve always loved the silhouettes of the 60’s and the color coordination in the outfits, for me Emilio Pucci bloomed in the 60’s, and his patterns inspired many for the following years.

I found this image of Pucci’s collaboration with the airlines and thought that it was a fun concept, so I decided to look more into it, and found this cool image.

Isabella de Vries

I’m Isabella de Vries. I was born in Houston, Texas, and lived there until the age of 7. I then moved to a small city in Mexico, where I grew up the rest of my life. I have one brother, that I adore. A lot of people think we’re twins because we look so alike. My mom is Mexican and my dad is Dutch. I’m majoring in Fashion Design at Parsons. I’ve been painting and drawing since I was 3 years old as well as taking art classes. I love trying out new ways of design. I’ve taken silver jewelry courses, learning how to weld silver and hand carve. I’ve taken classes from sewing, acting, music, painting, drawing, wood-workshops to knitting. I’m very passionate and interested in any type of manifestation of the arts.
